Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (70 - 80% lean)
- 1 pound Jimmy Dean's classic sausage
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 large jalapenos, seeds and viens removed, diced
- 8 ounces tomato sauce (1 can)
- 8 ounces water
- 1 large can diced tomato
- 3 Tablespoons dark chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano flakes
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 x 16 ounce cans red kidney beans, rinsed
Instructions
Brown beef and sausage together in skillet; drain in strainer then add to large pot. Add onions, peppers, and garlic to hot skillet with touch of oil. Cook until onions are translucent. Add everything to pot, simmer at low temp for 1 - 2 hours.
Notes
Can also be cooked in a slow cooker on low for 4 - 6 hours, skip cooking onion and peppers in skillet.
